Tides Counselling Practice is so named because we all have highs and lows in our life; times when we seem to ‘spring’ forward and then there is a ‘neep’ when things seem bleak and muddy. Occasionally events simply flood over us and we feel completely overwhelmed by the associated emotions. Sometimes, we can feel as if we are just drifting along taken by forces out of our control like flotsam and jetsam.My own life experience has sometimes felt as though I’m being tossed and thrown by turbulent waters. That same life experience combined with my experience as a counsellor, has taught me how resilient the human spirit is. Counselling can be lots of different things for different people but what it essentially offers is an opportunity to talk through issues with someone who is neutral; not a family member or friend, about things which the client is finding it hard to talk to others about. In coming to counselling, I try and help clients to make some sense of what is happening to them and support them while they seek to move forward in their own way and in their own time.

Since being made redundant in March of this year, I have been working on a consultancy basis for both the University of Bristol and the NHS. For the Engineering Design Course at Bristol University I have been conducting admissions interviews and working on projects that include marketing ideas to increase admissions. I continue to be the Chair for the Partnership of the course.The NHS Southwest Deanery has given me a project to process the immigration of Indian Doctors into the UK. This is the first time that the NHS has conducted such an exercise themselves without utilising an external agency hence I seem to be becoming the ‘immigration guru’ for the Southwest Deanery. I am entirely responsible for the project and liaise with the Southwest NHS Trusts, the GMC and UKBA plus over 100 candidates. I also have responsibility for 1 administrator.
