My lab research focuses on topics at the intersection of ruminant nutrition and environmental modeling aiming to enhance the productivity, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of ruminant production systems. Overarching goal of our group is to evaluate enteric methane and whole-farm greenhouse gas mitigation strategies (e.g., diets and feed additives) using in-vivo experiment and holistic life cycle assessment (LCA) tool, and understand the aspects of carbon and nitrogen utilization efficiencies in large ruminants both at the animal and farm scale.

Currently, I am working as a postdoctoral scholar at Dr. Ermias Kebreab's Lab in Animal Science at University of California Davis where my research focuses on evaluation of greenhouse gas mitigation strategies on carbon footprint of milk and beef production in the United States using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach. During my postdoc, I have authored a review article published in the Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems.

Dissertation Title: Evaluation of breed and diet on partial carbon footprint of milk produced in conventional system of WisconsinDissertation Committee: Dr. Michel Wattiaux (Advisor), Dr. Kent Weigel, Dr. Randy Shaver, Dr. Rebecca Larson (Biological system engineering), Dr. Randy Jackson (Agronomy)In my dissertation, we demonstrated that: • Dietary forage level has greater impact on enteric methane and manure chain greenhouse gas emissions than forage sources.• Effects of diet on enteric and manure chain greenhouse gas emissions did not depend on cow breed.• Dietary enteric emission mitigation strategies need to be evaluated at whole-farm scale.In terms of publications, this work has already resulted in 4 articles at top-tier journals (Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Dairy Science, JDS Communications and Applied Animal Science) and 5 conference abstracts (ADSA and ISNH). Another manuscript is in-review at the Journal of Cleaner Production and a co-authored manuscript is in-preparation. This research project was funded through USDA-NIFA grant.

Responsibilities-As a TA I:• Taught (infrequently in absence of main instructor) and graded DY SCI 414-Ruminant nutrition theory class for 23 senior level undergrad students during Fall, 2018.• Helped students mainly during discussion session.• Graded homework, assignments, project and exam.

Thesis Title: Genetic evaluation of dry matter intake in dairy cattle using big data collected from historical nutritional experiments Adviser: Dr. Theodorus Meuwissen and Dr. Roel Veerkamp (Wageningen University)• In this work, we demonstrated that dry matter intake data of dairy cows collected from historical animal nutrition experiment could be used for genetic evaluations after adjusting for heterogeneity.This work resulted in a publication in the Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics.

Thesis Title: Comparison of climate respiration chamber and FTIR-sensor method of measuring enteric methane emissions in dairy cows Adviser: Dr. Marleen Visker• In this research, we demonstrated that FTIR-based sensor installed within automatic milking system could be used as an alternative method of respiration chamber method to measure enteric methane.

As a lecturer for 2 years, I designed, taught and graded the following courses: • DS111-Introduction to dairy science (Theory for freshman, 60 students, partial responsibility as a team).• DS212-Dairy chemistry (Lab for Sophomore, 30 students, full responsibility including course design).• DS312-Dairy microbiology (Lab for Junior, 30 students, full responsibility including course design).• DS421-Dairy cattle production (Theory for Senior, 50 students, partial responsibility as part of the team).

While working in this position I:• Coordinated with farm staff regarding farm management decisions.• Coordinated with graduate students to initiate research experiment (trial).

Thesis Title: Effects of chopping length of roughage and processing of corn grainon dry matter intake, total-tract nutrient digestibility and weight gain of Holstein crossbred heifers.Adviser: Dr. M. A. Samad Khan and Dr. Harun-ur Rashid• This research work demonstrated that chopping of fresh-cut long forages and grinding of corn grains could help to improve the digestibility and growth performance of cross-bred Holstein heifers. This work resulted in a publication.

During my 6 months period internship I:• Worked at manufacturing and quality control unit of raw milk and milk products in the largest dairy co-operative system in Bangladesh.• Was exposed to different management aspects of a dairy processing plant.
