Inclusion isn’t just a buzzword for Elisa; it’s her life. A diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) keynote speaker, coach, researcher, and award-winning educator with over 20 years experience in higher education, Elisa empowers leaders and teams to build trust through courageous conversations. She works with clients at all stages of their DEIB journeys to help them create braver, safer, and more inclusive workplaces, classrooms, and organizations.Elisa is the founder of the innovative Faculty Institute for Inclusive Teaching at the University of Missouri-Columbia, a cohort-based program that builds faculty capacity for inclusiveness in the classroom. She has expertise in inclusive leadership coaching, navigating difficult dialogues, and designing and implementing inclusive teaching programming. Elisa is the first openly gay faculty member who specializes in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer studies to be tenured at the University of Missouri. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Brown University. Her teaching and her academic publications on LGBTQ+ Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, and Black Studies speak to her commitment to social justice.Throughout her career, Elisa has received awards for her teaching, DEIB initiatives, and exemplary leadership including the prestigious William T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence, the Provost’s Faculty Leadership Award, and the Mizzou Inclusive Excellence Award. Focusing on faculty development, Elisa worked as a faculty fellow for MU’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity for five years. She retired from Mizzou in 2022 and was awarded the title Associate Professor Emerita of English and Women's and Gender Studies.Elisa’s signature speaking topics include Building Trust Through Courageous Conversations, Creating a Culture of Belonging at Work, The Courage to Connect (Elisa's story), and Raising Your Voice Against Antisemitism.
