Working at Praties Kingston gave me an understanding of how small businesses operate. I saw how much effort can be required to keep a small business going, including the long hours, regular staff training and recruitment and ongoing paper work.I started at Praties as junior team member and my role included working as part of a team of 3 or 4, customer service and food preparation. As I moved up within the business I gained more responsibility and in the last two years of my employment I supervised shifts. This role required me to; ensure the team was working well together, that we were able to meet likely demand and deal with any customers service issues or complaints.

As the student brand champ I was the Institute of Chartered Accountants representative on Campus. I would speak at lectures to make students aware of the institutes up coming events including: * the employer information night, where students could meet prospective employers and find out about their businesses* The CA project, where students were provided with a business issue, on which they could prepare a business proposal.* The CA Achiever program, which provided selected students with 6 weeks of paid employment with a local accounting firm. To be eligible for the program the student had to undergo a recruitment process similar to graduate recruitment, including: the preparation and submission of a cover letter and resume and formal interview.
