Elise M. Burton (emb@oreillyburton.com) is a partner with the law firm of O’Reilly Burton LLP (www.oreillyburton.com) specializing in immigration and human rights law and the law of tax-exempt organizations. She advises nonprofit higher education institutions, arts, and social service organizations with respect to formation, policy, governance, and compliance matters. Her immigration practice focuses on family-based petitions, citizenship applications, and assistance obtaining entrepreneurial business and other non-immigrant visas. (On Leave) Ms. Burton received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law where she worked with the Immigration Law Clinic and was the Development Editor of the Virginia Environmental Law Journal. She earned her B.A. in political science from Barnard College and holds a Masters in Nonprofit Management from Regis University. She is an adjunct faculty member at Regis University and teaches for their Master of Nonprofit Management Program.Ms. Burton is licensed to practice law in New York and Colorado and has published and been a featured speaker regarding legal issues affecting nonprofit organizations and health regulations affecting migrant farmworkers. She sits on the board of the Hunter College High School Alumni Association and serves on the Nonprofit Corporations Committee of the New York City Bar Association. She is an active volunteer with the Pro Bono committee of the New York Chapter of the Association of Immigration Lawyers of America; the Riverside Church Immigration Clinic; and regularly provides naturalization legal services with CUNY Citizenship Now!
