For three years, I presided over North America's largest and oldest organization devoted to archaeology, with more than 240,000 members and a budget of circa $8 million. The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) is committed to outreach and education, and I worked to promote archaeology among the general public by lecturing to AIA societies (more than 50 throughout the United States and Canada) and to AIA audiences on cruises and tours and at museums and universities. In recognition of my service and commitment to advancing archaeological knowledge, the Elizabeth Bartman Museum Intern Fund to support student work on museum archaeological collections has just been launched by the AIA.
