I worked as a nursing assistant over the summer of 2015 for a lovely elderly couple. I worked two 12-hour shifts a week for eight weeks helping with bathing, meal assistance, ambulation, and errands as needed.

I worked in the lab of Dr. Anthony Chan studying the effects of Huntington's Disease rhesus macaques, working with the first transgenic monkey as well as the first transgenic monkey model of human inherited disease, Huntington’s disease (HD). I assisted in lab maintenance before becoming trained in Visual Pair Testing and assisting directly with our infant macaques.

I was selected to attend monthly fall and spring meetings at the University of Tennessee Medical Center as part of the Medical Explorations program, hearing from doctors and professionals on topics such as bioethics. Following the end of the lecture program, I was accepted to their summer program where I shadowed various physicians over a seven week period for 40 hours a week. This allowed me intimate access to the hospital rules and regulations, as well as give me the ability to shadow doctors and physician assistants as they worked in exam rooms and surgical suites.
