I lead a team of beat reporters who cover K-12 education, the environment, and issues of race, class and communities across North Carolina. I managed a team of producers and reporters to grow the station’s digital and social media platforms, engage digital audiences, and create unique content for numerous social platforms. I successfully advocated for the growth of the department from one digital editor to a team of four, while maintaining a level of high quality web production, storytelling, and writing. I transformed a newsroom of broadcast reporters and editors and trained the team on skills to produce content for digital and social media platforms. I serve as the lead training mentor at WUNC for the AAAS Mass Media Science & Engineering Fellowship, a 10-week summer program that places science, engineering, and mathematics students at media organizations nationwide. In this role, I help fellows use their academic training to research, pitch, report, and produce complex science stories to a general public.

Mentor for NPR's Next Gen Radio program, a 5-day, audio-focused, digital journalism project. In this role, I teach participants how to report and produce a non-narrated audio piece and a companion multimedia story.

Occasional adjunct instructor teaching Audio Journalism (MEJO 252), one of the foundational courses in the School of Media and Journalism's broadcast and electronic journalism program. Develop, plan, and execute lessons using a variety of technologies and instructional methods. Present the basics of writing, reporting, audio editing, voicing, and production skills to work within the electronic/broadcast news industry. Rochester, Minnesota

Bureau chief responsible for defining and executing news coverage of southeastern Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin for MPR’s 43-station radio network, website, social media outlets and newspaper partners. Researched, pitched, wrote, fact-checked, edited and produced an average of 100 daily and long-format radio and web stories per year. Coordinated reporting priorities on a broad range of issues, including breaking news, business, science, race and demographics, and healthcare. Presented information clearly and creatively in a high-pressure, deadline environment for radio listeners and web readers. Cultivated sources and nurtured working relationship with officials and public information officers at various local, state and federal agencies, as well as private business and local communities. Created daily news stories both pre-produced and live including photos and multimedia material to accompany radio stories on MPR’s website. Researched, pitched, wrote, fact-checked and edited an average of 150 daily and long-format news stories per year. Rewrote many of these stories for the paper's web audiences. Analyzed large amounts of government and public records information and integrated it into clear daily and weekly news reports for the newspaper and web audiences. Worked effectively in a highly-competitive media market, often scooping other media outlets to stories. Carved out a sub-beat on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues, as well as Hispanic affairs, as a regular member of the paper's Race and Demographics team. Covered breaking news effectively and efficiently, often in treacherous conditions, like hurricanes. Translated and aggregated news stories from local, regional and national Chilean media outlets into clear and concise stories in English.

Miami, Florida

Municipal reporter responsible for coordinating reporting priorities, conducting interviews and writing stories about politics, elections and crime in several municipalities in Miami-Dade County. Set reporting priorities and goals while working with the staff at two of the paper's regional bureaus and balancing the demands of feature news with breaking municipal news.
