What I love doing is being on site with my clients understanding their business, and helping them identify their risks and control deficiencies. My background is in audit and much of my career to-date has been spent across most industries but in particular not-for-profits and retail. In fact, I head up the retail industry group within BDO’s Melbourne office. My passion for not-for-profits came from working in Washington DC for 4 years. When I wasn’t indulging my travel bug around the US, I was almost exclusively auditing not-for-profit businesses. Since my return to Australia, my retail audit experience has deepened. I enjoy being able to walk into my clients’ stores whilst helping keep their businesses compliant as well as my love for shopping. My role as the retail industry group head includes organising numerous retail events, coordinating in-house industry research and helping BDO in Melbourne pool our respective strengths. My not-for-profit client portfolio includes large top 100 charities, as well as health and aged care businesses, education and trade associations. As a specialist not-for-profit auditor, it wouldn’t surprise you that I have a deep knowledge of ACNC act, and the financial reporting requirements it places on not-for-profit businesses. My audit clients tell me that they stay with BDO due to the access to partners, the deep and strong relationships we build with them, our experienced audit teams plus our technical and sector-specific insights which we share freely with them. Of course, they also get a stress free, well organised and well communicated audit with staff continuity. BDO offers a local presence with exceptional, responsive client service, but with a global network of any financial or accounting services that you might need now, or in the future as your business moves forward.
