The CCR is a non-profit umbrella organization that works towards the protection of refugee rights, as well as those of other vulnerable groups, such as people on temporary work permits, the protection of trafficked persons, etc. They also have a vibrant network of refugee youth, and "allied" youth, working towards the betterment of life in Canada as a refugee.My work at the CCR consisted of their office management, including the following tasks:* Accounts payable/receivable* General accounting (Sage) and financial report production* Payroll, including coordinating the collective insurance program* Donations: Managing production of tax receipts* Maintenance of member and donor databases* Conferences: Responsible for receiving and managing registrations, as well as other administrative tasks linked to the organization of our bi-annual conferences* Responsible for hiring and supervising the administrative assistantMy colleagues at the CCR are passionate, compassionate, and in general, just some fantastic folks. I have learned so much from them over the last several years; I am really lucky to have been a part of their team!

DTI Software is a Montreal-based company that develops games and applications, and delivers content for in-flight entertainment systems.Under the supervision of the Human Resources team, I had many tasks. Namely:* Posting job openings on different websites* Scanning and filing of documents* Making people feel special on their birthday* Using HTML to format our weekly newsletter* Being the contact person between ourselves and the company that managed the building regarding general maintenance* Assisting our legal counsel with diverse tasks: preparing letters, outgoing packages, etc.* Assisting the executives with their expense reports* Planning their travel logistics (planes, hotels, car rentals)* Assisting with planning the logistics around conferences/meetings* Taking care of reception: welcoming visitors, incoming mail/packages, filtering incoming phone calls* Managing the office suppliesI really enjoyed playing an active part in maintaining the positive working environment at DTI. I enjoy making people happy. Being part of the Human Resources department allowed me to have the best of both worlds: administrative tasks (my strengths), and having a role that was focused on people (my passion).

As a customer service representative, I had the joy of being the first point of contact for our clients. Whether it was to simply pay a bill, make modifications on their loan or mortgage, schedule/cancel an appointment in branch, or to give them financial advice, I always enjoyed the opportunity to connect with them.I knew my procedures very well, so my supervisor put me in charge of mentoring the new employees, as the procedures are quite complex and difficult to navigate for beginners.It was at RBC that I learned the importance of active listening, and how giving good service can put smiles on people's faces (always something to strive for in any given situation)!

MCC is an organization that partners with local community organizations by providing them with funding and/or volunteers.My role was to welcome young volunteer groups that would come for one or two weeks. I would organize their work placements, and provide them with cultural learning experiences (either by having people come speak to them on different topics, or by experiencing Montreal through our many festivals, museums, etc.) While the directors were away, my assistant and I would take over the running of the office.
