I occasionally do freelance floral design for friends who have parties, weddings, want holiday displays, wreaths, or event decorating. The biggest job I ever got doing this was working for a catering company during The Master's golf tournament doing event flowers for their 27 accounts for 10 days of festivities.

I am an active participant in the daily collaborative invention/design process provided by Quirky.com. I have had an idea (with a partner) selected for development and won five Naming competitions (one on shelves now), and have influenced over 400 products.. Activities include evaluating inventions, giving feedback, influencing design , and copy writing.In addition to my inventing efforts.Assist new members in navigating process and culture of a high profile collaborative design community. Assist Community Team to gather community thoughts and opinions.Presently gaining a large following by posting daily threads and comments about topics of interest to the collaborative community, creating content via commentary and posting of personal experiences, and responding to inquiries via personal message. Identify grass roots opportunties to promote Quirky message and relay to the Marketing Team. I am a cross between a concierge,bartender, coach,lobbyist and entertainer. I am working on facilitating a more fun and rewarding experience between both the staff and the online community, and the individual community members. Strong advocate for changes that mutually benefit the staff and community.

I have been exploring the Japanese tie-dyed techniques of Shibori for the last few months, and have recently been selling my creations at local Art and Farmer's Markets on the weekends. I start with "upcycled", natural fiber garment and use a variety of wrapping and resist techniques to create pattern while removing pigment. This ain't your grandma's tie dye! It looks somewhere between water, fire, smoke or fungus (all cool things). The color occur when the bleach reacts with the dies present in the fabrics. Assist with Trunk Shows and Eye Wear Events at The Spectacle and Village Optique. Supplement staffing at The Village Optique as needed. I like to stay current with the trends in eye wear and keep my skills up. Interacting with my client base lets me do this.

Created and managed an extensive Google Calendar for all Rebus Works activities. Entered invoices into QuickBooks, received payments into QuickBooks, logged and managed inventory and paying consignment artists in Poshier, filed pertinent paperwork. Assisted Gallery Owner with coordinating Pop-Up Events and vendor contracts for The Saturday Market. Wrote and issued press releases and content for Facebook and Twitter for 3 separate entities (Rebus Works, The Saturday Market, Donation Yoga at The Saturday Market). Wrote newsletters issued to Rebus Works mailing lists via Mail Chimp. Sold art, gift items and beverages (and popsicles!) at the Gallery in everyday and event settings. Handled coordination of meetings for Shopscotch, shared documents with collaborators. Actively recruited potential vendors for Market events.

Assisted the GeekSpark team in organizing events , meetings, and publicity. Updated Google Calendar, Facebook and Twitter accounts. Curated a Maker project, including recruiting a local celebrity instructor, signing up participants, answering onlooker questions, coordinating resources and facilitating class workflow.

Responsibilities in addition to optical sales, repairs, insurance, etc., included frame buying, procurement of packaging materials, selection and purchase of retail and accessory items, scheduling rep visits, writing and designing of Constant Contact newsletters (quarterly) /email marketing, writing and editing of website content, concepting and implementing promotions, display/merchandising of entire office, inventory management, event concepting and management, fundraising and cross-promotional marketing activities and relationships. Created the "fashion-forward" boutique atmosphere (previously lacking) needed for high end sales in an otherwise clinical environment. Inspired customers to try something new and love their eyewear.

A great part-time job (with lots of learning opportunities) to supplement income from my full time job. Helped customers select items, absorbed and relayed many hours of product information/technique/education, imagined for the non-creative, made family out of co-workers, suggested add-on sales, outfitted man-caves, met (and re-met) a gazillion people, decorated dorm rooms and dream homes, updated bridal registries, fulfilled thousands of special occasion wishes, ordered furniture, tablescaped loads of holiday celebrations, raised lots of money for Susan Komen, found solutions to many and varied problems, assisted countless customers in starting new lives. Individually wrapped literally hundreds of thousands of people's new, favorite things for safe transport. Hands down, the best potlucks of any job. Ever.

Optical sales, fitting, fixing, ordering,etc. of eyewear. This is where I learned "the basics", and discovered the parts of the eyewear industry that speak to me. I have maintained many of the customer and rep relationships that were forged during this time.

Co-designed and produced a line of hand-painted home accessories which was sold at events, and to specialty gift shops throughout the southeast.

Made custom arrangements, filled orders, processed flowers, maintained stock, created European gardens, bulb gardens, and terrarims. I merchandised, did store windows, sold inventory and closed out end of the day receipts and cash.This was a fun, creative place that featured a walk-in cooler where customers could select their own bunches and pre-made arrangements. I got to go to gift shows in this job, and helped select our inventory. Perhaps my favorite thing about this store was the owner--she was very unique, and refused to sell roses on Valentine's Day. We specialized in Tulips for this day, and sold loads and loads of them!

Built a market within the salon for services not previously offered, selected and marketed retail products for P.O.S. Worked with our ad designer to create promotions and marketing materials. Developed cross-marketing relationships (before it was cool) with high end cosmetic counters to raise profile and drive business to the salon. Assisted designer in creation of the "nail bar" and stylist stations, which still look fresh and current over 15 years later!

I was responsible for the Non-Foods department, which in this store was the front area seen when you enter the store. It included plants,flowers, books, baskets, bags, basically anything that was decorative and not food. I made custom flower arrangements, standard bouquets and vase arrangements for daily sale, created custom gift baskets for customers, created fruit baskets, maintained plants, ordered weekly merchandise, tracked sales and maintained the Non-Foods stockroom. Survived 2 Valentine's days.
