While working with H.E.L.P. Malawi I retrofitted the Service Fellow house and grounds into a sustainable home to use as a community model. This included facilitating the creation of compost toilets, the creating of an organic waste composting system, grey water recycling and irrigation system, livestock management, a Permaculture approach to garden and orchard creation, appropriate technology and creative growing methods, small-scale rain water harvesting, and aesthetic improvements. I also conducted food-security field research which led to my facilitation of the creation of a community garden for the village I was living and working in. The community I was working with was so enthused with this idea that they decided to self-fund the cost of the garden and contribute to the construction. While working on these projects I also wrote a 30-page Service Fellow House Permaculture Manual with background information, explanations, and instructions detailing maintenance for use by future service fellows.

I started as an intern for GREENWISE during the summer of 2007 based on my research and community project I had completed to get pesticides off of the athletic fields at my High School. During my employment with GREENWISE I worked in several different aspects of the company, and gained exposure to ways small business begin and succeed. While there I worked on marketing products and services through designing and managing an information station and product sales platform at local farmers markets, sustainability conventions, and city-wide green initiatives. I performed direct fieldwork including lawn care applications, landscape design and maintenance. Additionally, I was a customer service representative- responding to client calls and emails and worked to educate our clients on how to maintain their properties between services, an how to self-administer their own maintenance needs. I also performed research and consultation on concurrent developments in the field, as well as new products and services.
