1. Staff Management: a. Manage a staff of two Assistant Manager Editors, thirteen part-time Associate Editors, and four Statistical Editors for a biweekly journal that receives over 2,300 submissions per year b. Work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editors to optimize the Journal’s performancec. Perform yearly employee evaluations for full-time employees, quarterly performance reports for Associate Editors, and monthly reports for the Editor and Deputy Editors2. Editorial Managementa. Oversee that all stages of the editorial process, including: submission, review, revision, decision, and transmission to publisher are performed in a timely mannerb. Review, and as needed, edit every single accepted paper to ensure its high quality prior to being submitted to the publisher3. Preparation of Reportsa. Prepare the Journal’s Performance Reports to present to the Publications Committee on a quarterly basisb. Evaluate and prepare report of all current reviewers to determine who will qualify for the Editorial Advisory Boardc. Build ad hoc reports as requested by the Editors, mine data, and analyze results to inform workflow changes4. Management of JID’s Supplement Issuesa. Manage one-third of the supplements myselfb. Oversee and assist Assistant Manager Editors, as needed, with the supplements that I assign to them to manage5. Miscellaneous a. Liaise with publisher (including Senior Editor, Marketers, Supplement Editors, and Production Editor) to ensure a smooth workflowb. Acquire cover art for each issue of the journalc. Attend conferences with the Society, publisher, and miscellaneous other groups to enhance the performance and presence of the journald. Train new staff members including Editors, Associate Editors, and Transfer Editor, often using video tutorials I create myselfe. Liaise with the Managing Editors of the IDSA’s other journalse. Promote the strategic development of the JID and IDSA journals via various projects
