Teaching:In teaching English, regardless of level, I create a meaningful, collaborative environment where every student contributes via writing and speaking every day. I stress close reading, critical inquiry, meaning-making and argument analysis. We use technology creatively, dynamically and resourcefully in every class. In teaching EFL students, I encourage fluency at the sentence and soundbite level--students feel empowered when they recognize the connection between language, marketing and audience. This works well in all writing courses--from Business English and to Creative Writing. I have won a faculty teaching award (for teaching college writing). Editing:I can produce, edit and shape texts for a specific purpose and audience, balancing sharp, clear and concise communication with a creative flair suitable for marketing and publication (press releases, blogs, social media, newsletters, etc.). I can synthesize, summarize and write meaningful blurbs. I am co-poetry editor at the literary journal (volunteer position). Writing (Poetry and Book Reviews):I'm an award-winning poet. My current poetry manuscript has been a finalist four times. I also write book reviews primarily about motherhood, grief, and the manner in which exile, trauma, loss and nostalgia are influenced by and influence transnational experience and expression.
