I’ve always loved working with people. Or should I say - I’ve always loved helping and supporting people. For example: Folks have been saying “still waters run deep” about me since I was eight years old. And if active listening was an Olympic sport, I’d be a medalist. 👂🏅(Fun fact: I thought about naming my Fractional Chief Coaching Officer package “Chief Listening Officer.” Still haven’t ruled it out.)Earlier in my career, I honed those people skills as I climbed the corporate ladder. I worked in Talent Management at Reebok, served as Associate Director of Learning & Development at Digitas, and spent 10 years ultimately as VP of People at Rue Gilt Groupe.But, as time went on, I found that it wasn’t the large-team operations, HR administration or corporate success that lit me up. What I was really hungry for was work that had a deeper and more personal impact on the folks I worked with. I loved the smaller, quiet aha! coaching moments with staff in one-to-one meetings. Or impactful training sessions, where I could see teams integrate new, important skills. Each of those intentional moments is like a deliberate pebble in a pond, unleashing ripples of growth and progress. They give me the good kind of goosebumps. And a sense of purpose. And, I also saw how a lack of intentional leadership coaching and support could truly harm the culture and success of an organization. 📉 (Hey - this is still capitalism, and money still matters.)Enter: The Gillis Group. In 2020, I got brave, hung out my shingle, and began working as a Leadership Development Coach and Consultant. And I haven’t looked back since.
