Ellen is a seasoned nonprofit executive, CEO, and consultant with over three decades of experience in global justice, sustainable development, wildlife conservation, food systems, animal welfare, and humanitarian aid. She has worked and traveled in over 90 countries, bringing a global perspective to her leadership.Ellen is the president of Sankhara, advising nonprofits on strategic planning, partnerships, fundraising, and management. Projects have included Ngaren: The Museum of Humankind in Kenya with Richard Leakey, the One Mara Partnership, uniting conservation stakeholders in the Maasai Mara, and collaborations with Little Sun, Mara Elephant Project, The Gallmann Memorial Foundation, Okapi Conservation Project, IEEE, and Terra Conservation.Ellen served as CEO of Farm Sanctuary leading efforts to combat the harmful impacts of industrial animal agriculture on people, animals, and the planet, and as CEO of Tusk USA, supporting wildlife and ecosystem conservation across Africa. In her 16-year tenure at the International Rescue Committee as Vice President, she played a pivotal role in its growth from a $60 million to $650 million budget, overseeing operations, board relations, and global supply chain functions. Ellen spent 10 years at Covenant House. As the Associate Executive Director of New York, she served homeless youth, creating innovative programs, and managing a broad range of services to meet urgent and long-term needs. She worked with gang-involved, homeless, and at-risk youth, founding a social enterprise restaurant providing culinary training and launching a GED program at Rikers Island.She chairs the Wildlife Justice Commission Investigations Board, fighting transnational wildlife crime, and serves on the board of the Good Shepherd International Foundation, supporting marginalized women, children, and victims of human trafficking worldwide. She is an Advisory Council member for Born Free USA.Her career began at the National Urban League, where she developed STEM curricula for minorities and women.
