Executive DirectorTusk Usa May 2014 - Feb 2018Gillingham, Dorset, Gbwww.tusk.orgSought out by the board of Prince William’s conservation charity, which raises funds and sub-grants to 80 partners in 20 countries across Africa on conservation/anti-poaching projects, I orchestrated a 3-year fiscal turnaround plan, re-launching the charity’s U.S. organization, and spearheading a rebranding initiative to attract new donors. I created a financially sustainable fundraising strategy to achieve our budget goals and program growth while driving compliance with IRS, federal, audit, and state regulations; growing the budget from $650K to $6.2M in 3 years; and expanding our donor base from 1,000 to 24,000. Key to our success was orchestrating sold-out annual fundraising galas raising >$500K at our inaugural event along with >$250K in one evening after partnering with world’s best-selling photographer, David Yarrow, to auction off donated artwork at a private auction. To get our message out, I served as Tusk’s media liaison to People Magazine, Time Out, The New York Post, and Avenue Magazine and wrote articles on illegal wildlife trade for Avenue Magazine, The Huffington Post, and blog posts for social media outlets while representing Tusk USA at global conservation gatherings and conferences.I teamed with global conservation organizations and family foundations on fundraising collaborations as well as with major universities and conservation departments to create internships for students at Tusk grantee locations in Africa. To get diverse populations involved in our cause, I installed an active young person’s committee, a donor advisory council, and a segmented donor base and communications channel. -
