About Ellen Quarles

I received my PhD in 2017 at the University of Washington where I worked on interventions for cardiac dysfunction in aging. My work in the Jakob lab will built on that aging and molecular biology background, looking at polyphosphate in the aging brain and in C. elegans.I am a cellular and molecular biologist by training, and a methodologist at heart. At Janelia Research Campus, I combine all these skills to work with collaborating scientists to develop new methods solving big problems, using biology, engineering, microscopy, and image analysis tools.

While in the Rabinovitch Lab at UW, I worked on improving healthspan in aging through the use of aging interventions. We focused on using rapamycin, a calorie-restriction mimetic, to improve cardiac function in aging mice.I also took classes, trained and supervised many undergraduate students, published papers and developed my skills in building productive.
