Single recipient of a specialized Fulbright Research/Study grant in both Denmark and Greenland. During my year of graduate study at Aarhus University in collaboration with the Arctic Research Centre, I worked alongside world-class faculty to understand glacial and sea ice evolution in the Arctic in a rapidly changing climate. I also spent five months in Greenland conducting fieldwork in these fragile environments working closely with the Kalaallit people and the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources to explore how climate change is altering cultural and social fabrics of polar Indigenous communities.

1 of 40 juniors and seniors appointed to serve on this board for two years. Meetings occur 2-3 times a semester and are opportunities for us to talk with the Dean about topics of student interest, and for the Dean to solicit feedback on ideas.

In December of 2019, I applied, interviewed, and was selected to be an undergraduate member of Vanderbilt's Antarctic Research Team for the 2021 Field Season. This project will utilize new techniques to ascertain the history of glacial ice flow in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica. Deposits in these valleys preserve at least 15 million years of glacial history, which come from multiple glacial events and sources. We will spend about two months in Antarctica to sample these glacial deposits.Fieldwork for this project will occur from approximately November 1 – December 31, 2021. During the fieldwork, participants will be camping in extreme conditions in the McMurdo Dry Valleys for about five weeks. Temperatures are constantly below freezing at about 0 – 20°F, winds can be very strong, and the sun does not set. Days will consist of hiking on rocky terrain, digging to collect rock and sand samples, and mapping with GIS. Each person will have their own tent for sleeping, and we will have one large tent for cooking and office space. While camping, a satellite phone will allow brief phone calls home, but there is no internet access. For about the first two weeks and the last week of fieldwork, we will stay at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. Back at Vanderbilt, we will perform uranium-lead radiometric dating of zircon sand grains from each, building up a library of age data acting as fingerprints for different glacial sources. With these data, we can reconstruct past ice sheet behavior in Antarctica and better inform how the ice sheet will influence future global climate change and sea-level rise. This project is federally funded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Antarctic Program.

Crafted my senior thesis to be presented at the Greater Kansas City Science Fair in conjunction with Olathe North's Distinguished Scholars 21st Century Program. I studied the impacts of titanium dioxide on the degradation of biphenol A (BPA) in water. I was awarded 1st Place in the Senior Earth and Environmental Science Division, 2nd Place in the EPA sector of the competition, and the U.S. Stockholm Junior Regional Water Prize.
