I worked for Engine Shed and Tower Bars as part of the operational support staff since January 2014. Being part of the OSS team involves; bar work, table service, working private functions, understanding licensing laws and working as part of a diverse team. I was seen by my supervisors as one of the more senior members of staff due to my experience and understanding of how the business was run, and as I frequently made suggestions on how business and efficiency could be improved.Roles Included:• Providing a high customer service standard within the bounds of the licensing laws• Understanding the importance of licensing laws and the appropriate forms of identification when serving alcoholic beverages• Supervising more junior members of staff and deputising for management Training new staff members and helping to integrate them into the team• Working in a manner that reflected the values of the organisation as shown in the Union’s constitution and strategic plan, and in line with Union policies and procedures

I worked at a sports camp in Vermont over the summer of 2015. My primary roles included being an Archery and Golf instructor, whilst also having the responsibility of looking after 6 children for every 3 week session. There were 3 sessions in total over the space of 8 weeks. This opportunity allowed me to expand my understanding of other cultures whilst also developing some important skills. These skills are:Leadership and Supervision: Acting as a role model for the children under my responsibility, being able to work as part of a large and diverse team.Problem Solving: Being able to think on my feet of how to resolve problems that need addressing Communication: I developed the way I can differentiate the way I speak to different audiences, for example in a camp environment you need to be able to speak to; young campers, campers parents, counselors and management all of which require a different approach with the way you speak to each individual

I worked for Homebase as a Sales Assistant since I was 16 until April of 2015, after pursuing a summer time role in America and previously has worked in Homebase outside of term time, whilst still at university. I have relished my time working there and have become a well integrated member of the team. Although it is part-time I feel it has given me a good understanding of the business world and some of the processes that go on, on a day to day basis.Roles included:• Meeting and greeting customers entering the shop and helping them to find any products that they require whilst offering advice on purchases • Tidying and filling displays to ensure all product ranges are well presented and available for customers• Working on both checkouts and helpdesks when needed, ensuring that customers have a great buying experience and are given information about additional products and services such as loyalty and Nectar cards
