I am an outgoing individual, with a passion for helping others achieve their goals.My academic interests revolve around Economic Anthropology, Urban Anthropology, Applied Anthropology, and Behavioral Economics. I believe that the research that is being carried out in these fields is extremely relevant to understanding the rapidly changing sociopolitical climate we see today, specifically in regards to things such as the housing market, and the labor market.It would be my goal to further the research that has already taken place in these fields, as well as find ways to apply that research, in order to progress our economy in this time of great uncertainty. If I had to pick my top three books for understanding economic anthropology I would select, Philippe Burgois, "In Search of Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio." David Graeber, "Bullshit Jobs." And Daniel Kahneman, "Thinking Fast and Slow." while Kahneman's work is technically in the realm of Behavioral Economics, it serves as an effective primer on the subject, in order to better approach economics from an anthropological perspective.I also have first hand experience designing and carrying out ethnographic research for an economic anthropology project. For my undergraduate honors thesis, I designed and executed a project wherein I researched the growing market for Halal food products using the greater Corvallis Oregon area as a case study. In this project I; developed rapport with local business owners/managers, as well as community members, interviewed community members and store proprietors, and carried out participant observation. In addition to my academic interests, I also have a passion for physical activity, particularly martial arts, and outdoor activities. I have been a martial arts instructor for Zanshin Arts for the last six years, and have also served on their board of directors, first as secretary and currently as the president.
