I'll never forget the day that Elliot walked into the Marietta, GA showroom looking to join our team. Being young in my career and used to Tesla's culture of primarily recent college-grad employees, it was a surprise when Elliot shared his interest in joining us. Upon getting to know each other, I learned of his extensive history in the Learning and Development world. Recently retired, Elliot quickly learned that a life on the sidelines wasn't for him. This brings me to my first admiration of Elliot; Elliot is relentless in whatever he chooses to do. Case in point, Elliot wanted to join this burgeoning company, Tesla, because he believed in the mission. For the next few weeks, I received tailored emails and store visits from Elliot. He sought to bring value to every conversation, not just come in and ask for a job. It was this approach that let us know we needed him on our team. My relationship with Elliot grew over the years. While I was Elliot's 'manager', I hold fast to this day that I learned more from him than he did from me. As Elliot rose up the ranks of the top sales people in all of Tesla in certain months, I transitioned in my career to a role with our training team. So green and having nothing but intuituon to guide, Elliot took me under his wing. In between selling cars, Elliot would gently coach and guide me on how Tesla could become a world-class training organization simply by learning from what he had spent over a decade learning the hard way himself. I'm proud to say that, years later, I am still in the L&D world and, at times, feeling just as green as I did when I started. Even now, I go to Elliot as my sounding board and coach for how I can better improve the experience for my audience. . . He may not be fresh out of college anymore, but he's still just as hip and with the times as anyone I know. It's a privilege to call Elliot both a mentor and friend.
