About Emanuela De Falco
Physicist by training, I hold a PhD in bio-engineering and I have several years of research experience in the field of neuroscience.In my research I leverage my computational background to integrate high-dimensional experimental data with advanced data analysis of neural signals with the overarching goal to understand the brain dynamics regulating complex behaviours and cognitive functions. My research experience to date has equipped me with a unique set of interdisciplinary skills, ranging from experimental data acquisition to computational methods, and with the ability to handle complex and multidimensional datasets of various nature and scale. I collaborate with several research labs and hospitals worldwide to address complex research question through interdisciplinary work. I have a strong commitment to teaching and mentorship and I have had the opportunity to supervise and train several students from different Universities in the course of my career.

CurrentIn this position I am responsible for managing several research projects including many collaborative projects with hospitals worldwide. Here, we combine neural recordings from different clinical and non-clinical populations and cutting-edge technologies (including Virtual Reality and Robotics) with the overarching goal of uncovering complex brain dynamics.

During this experience I worked on high-density neural recordings from awake behaving rodents. Here, I learned novel data acquisition and complex statistical approaches to investigate the simultaneous activity of large neuronal populations. Findings from my postdoctoral research unveiled how complex neural patterns in the medial Prefrontal Cortex of rats.

During my doctoral studies, I had the invaluable opportunity to work directly with intracranial neural recordings from patients suffering from epilepsy. Using an innovative method based on information extracted from the world wide web, I demonstrated how neurons in the human medial temporal lobe, a key brain region for memory, encode long-term.
