Managing the Sustainable Seas Project which has three inter-linking components: 1. Establishing a network of Ocean Ambassadors from within the local community and building their capacity to teach and sensitize their communities on the importance of marine conservation; 2. Supporting the local community and fisher leaders to establish a locally managed marine area (LMMA) and sustainable fishing practices; 3.Establishing alternative or supplementary livelihoods for the fishing community to reduce the pressure on the marine ecosystems. The role involves staff and budget management, strategy and project development, capacity building and networking with a wide range of stakeholders including members of the local community, community leaders, government officers, dive-shop and hotel owners

Sister Communities is a Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) Bournemouth University project aiming to empower women groups in East Africa through the development of mutually beneficial partnerships – or ‘Sister Communities’. Our case study brings together the Bidii na Kazi Women Group from Mida Creek (Malindi, Kenya🇰🇪) and the women from Tofo Life (Inhambane, Mozambique🇲🇿). These women's livelihoods are rooted on their natural and cultural heritage. From exchanging experiences and knowledge, they can grow stronger, and we will better understand how we can stimulate opportunities for sustainable livelihoods of coastal women in East Africa.
