After 15 years of various employment in customer-facing, customer-focused jobs that have propelled me from part-time cashier to Assistant Meat Manager, Trainer, and Key-holder, I'm ready to take those skills and take a slight pivot into something new. As a writer, historian, and anthropologist, I'm ready to start a new adventure.A wealth of experience in retail has given me excellent insight into how to communicate with the general public, and how to make understood the general practices of a business to someone unfamiliar with them. To this end, I have become a preferred trainer of new staff, especially in regards to cash and meat duties due to my thoroughness and easy-to-understand direction. Retail is also an excellent place to learn time management, and my assistant-managerial duties even more so. As a key-holder I am well versed in both opening and closing duties, and making sure tasks are completed within that time frame, especially when I am the senior staff member that day and thus fulfilling a more overall-managerial role. Though my University days are somewhat passed, I have continued the tradition of research, study, and knowledge building to this day. If I need to know something, I am more than willing to take the time to learn, and learn properly. In this spirit I have, in the last 2.5 years, used this dedication to go from being a simple fill-in in my store's meat department, to Assistant Manager and able to run all day-to-day functions. This includes not only all preparation and display, but also using the more advanced equipment (of which, only two of us in the store are fully trained), ordering for the department, and using the CICS receiving software to complete the paperwork side. In my non-work time, at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021, I was fortunate enough to gain some experience in publishing as my work was featured in a small-press anthology. In this capacity, the group acted not only as writers, but proofreaders, first-round editors, and social media marketers of our book. We reached #3 and #8 in sales on Canadian and American Amazon respectively in our category during release week.
