As a kid, I saw an episode of TLC's An Adoption Story where a social worker traveled to Korea to bring back a baby for an American couple and I thought - there's my dream job! I love babies, I want to travel the world, and who wouldn't want to travel the world WITH BABIES!I now know nobody wants to travel the world with babies, and I also know that adoption is so much more complex and nuanced than the warm and fuzzy package it's often shoved into in popular culture.Adoption is my life - as both an adoptive parent (to the most perfect, hilarious, spicy, complicated, and wholly unique tiny humans in the world) and a professional supporting other families in the world of foster care and adoption. In my role at The Salvation Army Children's Services, I have the opportunity to advocate and fight for children each and every day - through recruiting, training, and onboarding prospective and new foster and adoptive parents, developing training and marketing materials, implementing best practices and the highest standards of ethics and compliance within our work, and helping to match children who need homes with families who can provide them. I'm also a car seat safety nerd (CPST certified in 2022, Safe Travel for All Children in 2023), aspiring writer, passionate about trauma informed care and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), and lucky to work with a team of adoption experts who kindly provide free parenting advice daily. I have traveled to zero places and I am perfectly ok with that, since I get to come home every night to my own babies.
