Profile bio

About Emily Chung

I'm currently the managing director at CERPP, which means I help lead the daily operations of the USC Center for Enrollment Research, Policy and Practice. I love the mission of our Center, which is to foster equity and expertise in college access, admission, and outcomes and have served as the interim executive director for 1.5 years to help with the center's transition to new leadership. The best part of my current job is that I get to conduct research on college access and success, but also see this research implemented into PRACTICE, whether it's through a community outreach program, the USC College Advising Corps; a postgraduate certificate program that trains the next generation of enrollment management leaders with the viewpoint that higher education is a public good; or an annual conference that attracts some of the best and brightest practitioners to discuss new approaches for more equitable admissions and enrollment policies. It's amazing to have the opportunity to nerd out on research and working for a cause I believe in--equity in educational opportunity. And did I mention I have the best team to carry out the work of our research center?! I'm lucky to work with my colleagues: 43 passionate college advisers, 4 advising program supervisors, a department business administrator, an educational program designer, a visiting scholar, and our scholar-in-residence, and our executive director, united in our mission.Outside of work, I love traveling locally and abroad, exploring new places, meeting different people, and finding fun places to eat with my family, which includes my husband, young son, and a rescue mutt. In my abundant spare time (ha!), I love to read and catch up on movies and TV shows.

Listed skills include Research, Grants, Public Speaking, Program Evaluation, and 19 others.

Promoted recently to associate director to lead the Center's day to day operations, with oversight of 54 employees and an annual budget over $3 million. There is never a dull day, as there is never a typical day. I have the pleasure of conducting research on higher education admission and enrollment issues. Putting research into practice, I guide our USC College Advising Corps and our amazing 47 college advisers in their quest to help high school students navigate their paths to college. Vigorous fundraising and managing grants and contracts is a necessary part of the job. I also help our Center organize a thoughtful, big-picture conference on achieving equity in college admissions and enrollment that convenes 200 people from around the US and indeed the world. And I help recruit students for an innovative online postgraduate certificate program creating leaders in enrollment management.
