I am currently Assistant Professor at Northern Arizona University. I completed my postdoctoral work at the University of California San Francisco in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery under the mentorship of Drs. Susan Lynch, Andrew Goldberg, and Steven Pletcher. I am primarily interested in the role of the upper airway microbiome in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), cystic fibrosis (CF), and asthma. I earned my Ph.D. in the Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Arizona University (NAU) under the mentorship of Dr. Jeff Leid (2008-2012). During my graduate program, I studied the role of secondhand tobacco smoke on the microbial community composition and the virulence potential of sinus pathogens, integrating basic microbiology training with emerging 16S rRNA gene sequencing technologies. As an undergraduate at NAU (2004-2008), I studied the activity of components of the innate immune system to disrupt bacterial biofilms.
