About Emily Garstang
Athletic Training? No—can't do blood. Physical Therapy? NOPE. You lost me at the cadaver lab. Education? My sarcasm could not handle it. Business degree with the plan of opening a bakery? Baking sounds nice, but it is not my dream. Visual Communications? Yeah, ok! I liked this in high school; let's give it another shot! After a very confusing first semester, I graduated in 2016 with a degree in Visual Communications. Over the years, my passion for art and design grew, and I continued to learn in environments that allowed me to explore and experiment. Through internships, freelance work, and even my first job at HoneyBaked Ham, I quickly built my background and gained experience. Customer service and communication were (and have continued) to be vital in my career—skills you gain soon after your first holiday season slinging hams. Barnes-Jewish St. Peters and Progress West led me to understand that there was SO much more to the marketing world than just working in an agency. I studied my mentors in how they interacted with colleagues, donors, and clients, giving me the drive to want to do more. At Momentum, I learned about the fast-paced agency lifestyle and discovered that I adore all sides of the branding process—ideation, design, the pitch process, and client interaction. I was given the opportunity to create artwork with clients like American Express and Powerade, collaborate on pitches for Charter Spectrum and Buffalo Wild Wings, ideate for national non-profits, and even help execute an entire internal rebrand. My favorite part, though, was the culture. Nothing will ever compete with a team's excitement of winning a pitch or developing a fantastic plan of action for a client. As much fun as I had in the agency lifestyle, I was ready for a new adventure, one that led me back to the non-profit world. On day one at Oasis, I was given the independence to make marketing decisions. I have learned two of my greatest skills while there, project management and the importance of ADA-compliant and accessible work, including diversity, equity, and inclusion, in all that I do. I have had the opportunity to: renovate and develop new social media campaigns, build repartee with a fairly divided network of Oasis locations, build numerous print and email marketing campaigns, and even refresh and promote a brand from the ground up, all while focusing on ADA compliance and upholding DEI standards. My career, thus far, has given me so many unique opportunities to flex my creative arm, and I am thrilled to see where and how I continue to grow.
Listed skills include Adobe Creative Suite, Brand Development, Web Design, Microsoft Products, and 3 others.
