I took part in a summer research project for Dr S. Hall, for which the aim was to create a superconductor with an inverse opal structure. This was achieved by creating a biopolymer scaffold around a polystyrene opal network. The work I completed will be continued by other students, with the aim of publishing a paper on the new superconductor structure in the future. The internship was a fantastic insight into how research in a university is conducted, and provided me with invaluable experience in how to conduct my own research.

I was employed by AstraZeneca as a summer student, where it was my task to create and deliver training and internal marketing material for a new company-wide chemistry application. The nature of the software required basic knowledge of drug discovery and research, an overview of which I received during my first week of the internship. My work on the software branding included an extensive kit of templates and designs, as well as a video for marketing purposes. It was my responsibility to help the business analysts create documents that would inspire the employees and get them excited for the tool.

I worked as a freelance graphic designer, while also studying for my chemistry degree at Bristol University. During this time I:- Won projects with 3 start-ups (Core Capable, Mabel Apps, Minerva) to develop logos and marketing collateral for their launch. - Used a mix of traditional media and Adobe Illustrator to create original graphical content. - Used Adobe InDesign to create complete branding guidelines for Mabel Apps.- Used Adobe Photoshop to update product images of a new model of a scientific instrument within a very short timescale.

I did extensive testing on a new instrument to determine what chemicals would damage it, as well as instrument testing for a complex assay. This required me to have an understanding of lab protocols, and also for me to understand exactly what the machines were testing. I was also tasked with creating many marketing documents for new products, as well as the quick-start guides for those products and user documents. I liaised with marketing companies to create documents that corresponded with Biochrom’s existing image, and also with new products’​ branding.
