Current PhD Student at the Tooze Lab at the Francis Crick Institute, am very excited to be investigating autophagy in the lab and am excited to learn new skills and continue my path as a researcher.I recently completed by MSc by Research degree at the University of Dundee in the MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit. During my time in the lab I developed skills in 32-p-ATP kinase screening, cell culture and phostag anaylsis. This year and a half was a great opportunity for myself to learn technical skills in the mitophagy field and lowed me to fully immerse myself in research culture - which I hope to use in my PhD. I am a BSc Hons Pharmacology graduate from the University of Glasgow. My final year electives included statistics for life sciences, precision medicine, cell signalling for disease and core skills in drug discovery. During these elective I demonstrated my knowledge of these electives through course work and presentations. My honours project investigated the distribution of beta-adrenoceptors in the rabbit saphenous artery using wire myography and confocal microscopy. The project consisted of me dissecting the vessels and mounting them to measure contractile responses to beta-adrenergic drugs. Throughout my undergraduate I also have experimental experience in sequencing, polymerase chain reactions, bacterial culture experiments, radioligand binding, guinea pig illeum and rat hemi-diaphragm preparations. Along with these practical skills I have write up experience using RStudio and prism. At university I was part of glasgow university pharmacology society, where I attended scientific confrences with my peers and discussed emerging topics in drug discovery. I also assisted a team in organising our graduate ball. I was also part of Glasgow University Swimming and Water Polo Club - where I was the Publicity and Alumni Officer 2018-2019 and women’s captain 2019-2020. As the publicity and alumni officer I was in charge of creating exciting social media posts to engage with the wider community of the progress of the club. I solely organised the annual 1898 dinner. That consists of a three course meal and ceilidh for just under a 100 guests. My job also encouraged me to engage with graduates and form a long lasting bond between them and the club.
