I am a 12-time Edward. R. Murrow-winning journalist and communications consultant who practices and teaches smart storytelling. As an on-air correspondent, my work has appeared on networks including: CNN, ABC, NBC, Bloomberg and hundreds of news outlets around the world. As a coach, I help clients effectively develop and deliver their corporate stories as they navigate today’s complex and evolving communications environment. In addition, I’ve developed crisis communications strategies for international and corporate clients.I excel in high-stress situations where the only constant is change: reporting live from breaking news, analyzing too-close-to-call elections as they unfold, and enterprising to find the story behind the headlines. Over the years, that has required wading through hurricane floodwaters, asking tough questions of presidential candidates and even flying in zero gravity with science teachers as we learned the joy of one-finger pushups. All these experiences have taught me how to distill vast amounts of information into easily-understood, impactful and memorable messages, and how to teach others to do the same on camera, online, and in person. My career has taken me from a one-night sports anchor job I won when I was just fifteen years old, to Wisconsin, Iowa, Maryland, and now a decade spent in Washington, DC covering politics in the nation’s capital. I’ve won a multiple Emmy and journalism awards, including ones for best reporter and best writer, and I’m a proud University of Missouri alum, where I majored in journalism, minored in political science, and graduated summa cum laude. I love Washington baseball, Florida beaches, and the Iowa farm where I grew up-- in a state that prides itself on the caucuses which launch some presidential hopefuls’ campaigns and sink others. It’s where I learned that messages matter, and it’s a lesson that shapes every story I tell.I'm happy to talk with anyone who needs a story told better--and able to help in person, or often, from the road. My husband and I love to balance hard work with travel with our sons. We hit 50 states, 7 continents, and wrote the Amazon-best-selling travel book "Geo Kids: 50 States on School Breaks"
