I am a Director at TheJudge Group (www.thejudgeglobal.com), which is a specialist provider of legal risks insurance. TheJudge is one of the longest standing brokers in the sector and the first to be ranked tier 1 by Chambers and Partners. In 2020, TheJudge was acquired by the Thomas Miller Group, an insurance and financial services group writing in excess of $1bn in premiums a year with circa $3.4bn AUM. Thomas Miller is also the long serving manager of the Bar Mutual in England & Wales. I enjoy a diverse role at TheJudge, with my day-to-day role consisting of arranging litigation insurance indemnities (e.g. ATE insurance, DBA insurance, capital protection insurance) for the full spectrum of commercial claimants, ranging from SMEs, liquidators through to large international corporations. Most of my dealings are via litigation and arbitration lawyers seeking to ensure their clients' interests are best managed and that the law firm is meeting its regulatory compliance when interacting with the insurance market. My team and I work with all the major insurers and reinsurers in our specialist market. I also work closely with my colleagues in the litigation finance team at Erso Capital (www.ersocap.com). TheJudge is closely affiliated to Erso Capital, which is a litigation finance company established in 2021 with offices in the UK and US, founded by the former senior management of TheJudge, as well as the Thomas Miller Group. Between discretionary funds, single managed accounts and co-investment funds, Erso has access to capital in excess of $1bn.
