Like many marketers in the industrial space, I started my career executing tactics without understanding the foundations of marketing that ultimately drive business outcomes.Fresh out of college, I joined an industrial automation company's head office in Japan where I had to navigate rigorous processes and systems in my second language.Three years within this structured environment taught me that effective marketing isn't about doing everything possible—it's about doing what matters most. When I returned to the US office, I brought back a completely new perspective on what it means to be a strategic marketer in the industrial space and a determination to become one myself.This journey sparked my mission: to help other marketers in industrial companies become generalists who are scrappy but strategic, not just order-takers. Too many of us are trapped in the cycle of "doing marketing" without understanding how our work drives business value, then struggle against an organization that doesn't believe in marketing or has a misaligned idea of what it is.I believe that by helping marketers shift their mindset from tactical to strategic, we can elevate the role of marketing in industrial companies from a cost center to a growth driver.Today, I lead marketing initiatives that demonstrate the strategic value of marketing in industrial automation. I share my learning experiences to help other marketers evaluate their activities through a business lens, prioritize initiatives based on real impact, and communicate value in terms leadership understands.While I'm still growing, I'm focused on building programs that not only drive business results but also serve as examples for other marketers looking to make the same transformation from tactical to strategic thinking.
