Emily Yu is a Software Engineer at Databricks. Colleagues describe her as "I had the pleasure of mentoring Emily during her internship with the SDK team at Pinecone. Over the course of her 3 months, Emily showcased sharp technical skills and an ability to learn on the fly. She took on building out a Rust SDK client for our vector database service from scratch. This required learning the Rust ecosystem, OpenAPI specifications and protocol buffers, and with the nuances of REST and gRPC. Emily demonstrated distinct attention to detail as she participated in our team's PR and code review process, and collaborated with one other intern to implement a feature complete Rust client. This included designing scripts for code generation from specifications, full unit and integration test suites, CI/CD workflows for the client repository, and full documentation. This was on top of all of the Rust that was needed to implement the full vector database service, including newer features which were in public preview at the time. At the end of the summer, Emily was able to release an alpha version of the Rust SDK to crates.io. Additionally, the repository with the client code was made public as an open source project. Emily played a critical role in getting this client off the ground. Her combination of technical skill, adaptability, and collaborative energy made her a great teammate to work with.
