As a counselor, I lead and support a variety of campers with disabilities in traditional summer camp games, outdoor activities, therapeutic activities, and community outings. For campers with behavioral challenges, I am responsible for administering a behavioral plan and adjusting the plan as the camper progresses. For each camper, I am responsible for taking data on their progress towards cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and behavioral goals.

Extra Special People is a recreational therapy organization that provides after school programs, summer camps, and family engagement events for people with disabilities. As an intern at ESP, I am responsible for creating lesson plans, preparing materials, and leading a weekly class for people with disabilities. It is my responsibility to make sure my activities offer opportunities for participants to grow in a variety of areas such as fine and gross motor development, gaining autonomy and decision-making skills, increasing appropriate social skills, and following multi-step directions. Athens, Georgia Area

As a volunteer at Extra Special People, I worked 1-on-1 with a 10 year old boy with Down Syndrome. I supported him throughout his after-school programs and therapeutic recreational activities. During my time as a volunteer, I was awarded Outstanding Volunteer of the semester.

Greater Atlanta Area

I was a caregiver for an 8 year old boy with autism. I was responsible for caring for him and incorporating his therapy goals into our activities. I planned many community outings to develop his verbalization skills, social skills, and simple conversational skills. Other planned activities addressed fine and gross motor development through directed play and cognitive skills such as reading and writing were addressed through various games.

The Ellis School is a school that serves children with cortical visual impairment and deafblindness. As a volunteer, I supported 2 students aged 10 and 14. I assisted with occupational and physical therapy and supported the 1-on-1 teacher during cognitive exercises. I learned basic tactile sign language. http://www.elliscenter.org/

Jacob's Ladder Neurodevelopmental School and Therapy Center is an organization that provides therapy and alternative school for children with disabilities. As a volunteer, I worked 1-on-1 with a variety of students during their physical and cognitive activities. During my time at Jacob's Ladder, I was made a permanent assistant for a 17 year old girl with Cerebral Palsy and was responsible for executing many of her activities.
