Career Advisor
I supported students in TWCâs Career Readiness Program, in addition to supporting them as they navigate their internships. The students come from all academic backgrounds, but mostly international affairs and political science/government. I advised students 1:1 on resumes, cover letters, grad school applications and more. I supported and empowered students to take initiative to work through any issues they faced at the internship site, and ensured they were having a positive intern experience in DC. Resident Assistant, Office Of Residential Life
RA for 70 seniors in the upper class residence area. Facilitated monthly programs to foster community and engagement within the residence hall. Enforced policies, documented violations and incidents via Maxient. Delivered a high quality of care for students of concern and in distress.
Resident Counselor, University Of Texas-Austin
RC @ University of Michigan summer 2020 (cancelled due to covid)As a resident counselor I was part of a team of other RC's who oversaw over 70 high school students enrolled in classes at UT Austin as part of a Summer Discovery's pre college enrichment program. I was able to lead my own group of 12 high school girls, I answered questions about applying to college, and shared my own experiences. I also supervised and accompanied the students to various events and field trips around Austin and the state of Texas. My favorite thing about being an RC was that it was a great blend of so many roles! They lived on campus so I acted as their RA in ensuring safety and appropriate conduct in the halls, their Orientation Leader by showing them around campus, a Camp Counselor by leading them through activities, events and field trips, and overall a mentor and resource for them.
Barbara Lee Family Foundation Fellow, Representative Carole Fiola
I was chosen Barbara Lee Fellow through an application process and interview. I worked inside the legislative office of MA Representative Carole Fiola. As an intern I was exposed to a variety of things, I attended briefings & hearings, met with constituents, and performed administrative tasks. I also did research on topics as needed at the Representatives request. I wrote a research paper for the representative on postpartum depression in new mothers and resources in Massachusetts south shore.I loved all aspects of this internship but my favorite thing was attending briefings. It allowed me to network with people, while learning about the things they are passionate from toxic materials in gymnastics equipment, to getting fresh fruit and vegetables as a part of the Healthy Incentives Program. These briefings increased my knowledge of things happening around Massachusetts and allowed me converse with constituents in a more effective way, and overall be a better intern.
Vice President, Student Government Association
As student body vice president, I hosted weekly office hours to connect to the student body, chaired first year class council elections, and ran weekly forums alongside the student body president.I was able to help the president achieve her goal of restructuring the entire student government to include for a House of Reps and a Senate, and I developed, and ran a brand new elections cycle for the restructure.I am most proud of working with the rest of my e board members to advocate for stipends for SGA and student leaders, and eventually getting that resolution passed. Seeing it pass after over two years of discussions and debate through many SGA administrations was incredibly rewarding. This was a monumental step in making high profile leadership positions more accessible to the student body.I was also able to attend my second American Student Government Association Conference, this time in Los Angeles, California!
Simmons Academic Mentor (Sam)
As an academic mentor for first year political science and communications students, I acted as a peer academic advisor. I enjoyed getting to know more members of the student body, sharing my knowledge of political science and communications courses, and helping students acclimate to college.
Orientation Leader
As an Orientation Leader, I worked with my fellow OLâs to prepare all orientation activities and elements before the students arrival. From building balloon arches, to ironing table cloths, and planning sessions, I worked tirelessly alongside my fellow OLâs and professional staff members to plan the best orientation possible. Although I love all aspects of orientation, and leading my own group of orientees, I particularly loved being able to sit on various panels to talk to first years about how they can get involved in campus. The most rewarding part of being an OL is when orientation is over, and my orientees tell me how much of a positive impact I have had on them, and how much they loved orientation!
Communications Director, Student Government Association
As Communications Director I created and maintained the SGA brand at Simmons, primarily via social media. I am most proud of working with the âSGA Branding an Marketing Committeeâ to develop a campus wide campaign for an SGA slogan. I also marketed our annual âWomen Centered College Weekâ to the student body, where we had guest speakers and several panels, one of which was a Women in Politics Panel, that includes 4 elected officials from around the commonwealth. Additionally, I had the opportunity to travel to Dallas, Texas in November of 2017 with my fellow SGA members to attend an American Student Government Association Conference. It was there we learned how we could become a more cohesive student government. From this conference, we developed various committees on campus to create change, through dining services, academics, marketing, disability services, tax certification and diversity, equity and inclusion.
College Mentor, Site Leader
As a mentor for SWSG I facilitated engaging lessons each week, for girls aged 8-10, and fostered learning and development through education on strong influential women. I am most proud of the Simmons chapter of Strong Women, Strong Girls receiving the âAbove and Beyond Chapterâ award, out of 5 college chapters in Boston, at the Annual Strong Awards.
Marketing Intern
IGNITE is building a network of young women who are ready and eager to run for office. As a Marketing Intern, I worked on various tasks such as developing an Instagram contest centered around IGNITEâs #VoteTwice campaign, and created contacts for upcoming conferences and events. In June 2018, I attended the annual Young Women Run Conference, where I worked on the social media team to engage with conference participants.
Legislative & Community Affairs Intern, Senator Sonia Chang-DĂaz
Through working at the front desk, I was able to be the first line of communication with constituents. I have learned about issues most important to residents of the 2nd Suffolk District, while also learning about the behind the scenes policy work. Through this internship, I had the opportunity to sit in on meeting with constituents, attend various events with the senator, and policy briefings at the state house. I wrote an original research paper for this internship on mental health in prisions, as criminal justice reform was a big part of the work of Sen. Chang-DĂaz.While working directly with Communications Director, I was able to create original graphics and flyers to be posted on the senators social media. I am extremely proud of developing a graphic for the senators âFeedback Surveyâ, which received more than 1,000 responses form her constituents.
Event/Operations & Communications Intern
As an intern for the MWPC I was primarily responsible for assisting in the planning of the 30th Annual Abigail Adams awards ceremony. Additionally, I helped post on social media and run analytics, specially on Twitter. Additionally, I am most proud volunteering on campaigns for 36 women running in the Massachusetts municipal elections, including now Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, former mayor Boston Mayor Kim Janey, and current Mayor Michelle Wu.
