InternU.S. Department Of State Jan 2020 - Apr 2020Office Of East Africa AffairsInterning at the Department of State was a dream internship for me that combined my passions for International Relations and East African Affairs. Building on my time studying abroad in Nairobi, Kenya and interning with USAID, this internship grew my passion for working on issues related to sub-Saharan Africa and working for the U.S. Government. While in this role, some of my tasks included: - Scheduled, prepared, and accompanied the Ambassador-Designate on high level, pre-departure consultations that briefed him before his tour in Dar es Salaam. - Developed comprehensive knowledge of country and regional issues, briefing senior officials on pressing policy decisions, drafting memos and communication for agency consultations, and leading the connection between the Department of State and the Embassy of Tanzania. - Facilitated communication between Embassy Dar es Salaam and stateside officials at the Department of State. -
Fundraising InternOfyeneda Sep 2019 - Jan 2020Nairobi, KenyaThe Organization for Youth in Environmental and Educational Affairs (OFYENEDA) is a grassroots organization in Nairobi, Kenya that works to empower the youth intellectually and economically to help them address poverty & illiteracy. I am working to help this center grow and continue to accommodate 50+ street-children and give them an education in sustainable practices. -
InternUsaid May 2019 - Aug 2019Washington D.C. Metro AreaIn this role I was able to assist the Great Lakes team in the East Africa bureau of USAID in day-to-day operations, policy formulation, and logistical planning. One of greatest accomplishments in this role was creating and implementing a "Google Guide" distributed to the entire bureau, leading a day long retreat on the material, and leading supplemental weekly trainings. I additionally worked with USAID resources to plan a day long office retreat to work on team goal setting and bonding, and planned three Africa Bureau brownbags with the Department of State and the National Security Council. I also enjoyed the challenge of backstopping all seven country portfolios (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, and Burundi) at different parts of the summer and staying up to day on relevant policy issues. -
