    Interning at the Department of State was a dream internship for me that combined my passions for International Relations and East African Affairs. Building on my time studying abroad in Nairobi, Kenya and interning with USAID, this internship grew my passion for working on issues related to sub-Saharan Africa and working for the U.S. Government.     In this role I was able to assist the Great Lakes team in the East Africa bureau of USAID in day-to-day operations, policy formulation, and logistical planning. One of greatest accomplishments in this role was creating and implementing a "Google Guide" distributed to the entire bureau, leading a day long retreat on the material, and leading supplemental weekly trainings. I additionally worked with USAID resources to plan a day long office retreat to work on team goal setting and bonding, and planned three Africa Bureau brownbags with the Department of State and the National Security Council. I also enjoyed the challenge of backstopping all seven country portfolios (Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, and Burundi) at different parts of the summer and staying up to day on relevant policy issues.
