Established an after-school program/community center for elementary school students in a low-income neighborhood on the Texas/Mexico border. Coordinated and secured use of a county facility for the Mission: Border Hope Loma Bonita Kidz Klub After-School Program. Developed a literacy focused and driven curriculum geared to students from kindergarten to sixth grade. Worked one-on-one with over 200 low-income, first-generation English speakers. Transitioned the after-school program into both a Spring Break Program and Summer Camp. Wrote a Youth Literacy Grant that was approved by Dollar General and received $4000 for educational and culturally relevant instructional materials. Recruited local community volunteers and developed relationships with different agencies (non-profit, for-profit, school district, and local government) throughout the community. Coordinated the logistical and administrative needs of volunteers from throughout Southern and Eastern Texas and Oklahoma. Developed literacy fairs in county outreach centers to encourage grade school children to learn to read and write. Maintained relationships with Public Housing Authorities and local county government officials to coordinate literacy events.Collateral duties included conducting client assessments and resource allocation determination following massive flooding in local area. Worked with NGOs to direct assistance to those families with the greatest need. Ensured victims were aware of and had access to other available disaster relief programs offered by NGOs, as well as federal, state, and local government.
