Competitively selected to be a part of the Spring 2023 Women in Leadership (WIL) program, a leadership development program for regional cross-sectoral women professionals. The WIL program supports the leadership development of women, establishing a pipeline for professional advancement, and creating a cross-sector network of women who support each other’s leadership development. Across four-months, 1) experienced leadership, mindfulness, and DEI facilitators, 2) peer coaching, and 3) the broader WIL and Coro community through Coro’s unique blend of experiential programming. The curriculum included a wide range of professional skills-building, such as Adaptive Leadership, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Intersectionality frameworks, Effective Inquiry and Critical Thinking, Giving and Receiving Feedback, Interpersonal Leadership Styles™, Managing Diverse Teams, Mindfulness Practices, Negotiation, Network Building, Public Speaking Best Practices, Self-Awareness and Self-Management tools, and Stakeholder Analysis and Coalition Building, among others. I am now a part of the broader Coro alumni community that includes over 11,000 alumni nationwide, spanning sectors, industries, experiences, and backgrounds, all eager to make an impact in our communities, teams, organizations, and in each other.

Conducting research with the Director of the Center for Ethics with specific focuses in responsible artificial intelligence and ethical tech (domestic and global), AI ethics in medicine and health care, and business ethics and compliance. Other topics include public policy, surveillance, and research ethics. Managing and populating a “living library” of AI ethics articles to support faculty presentations and meetings. Participating in an AI ethics working group with Emory professors to brainstorm next steps in tech and AI ethics.

Identifying and analyzing medical ethics cases brought to the Emory University Hospital Ethics Committee. Bi-annual column poses an ethics case and outlines different approaches, asking the audience to conceive their own answer and revealing the Ethics Committee’s decision. Involves collaboration with Emory’s clinical ethicist, members of the ethics committee, and other advisors.

Worked with the HIV Incidence and Case Surveillance Branch (HICSB) to construct an ethical framework document for molecular cluster detection surveillance work. Developed content for a national presentation series on data privacy and protection. Presented a cumulative report on the semester’s work to the CDC Public Health Ethics Consortium and gave weekly report-outs on progress to Emory bioethics students and faculty.

Worked closely with state legislators on commissioned research ventures. Drafted proposed legislation for Colorado State Legislators on surprise billing and consumer rights. Carried out in-depth health research/analysis, grant management, empirical study design, regulatory/legislative comment letters (state and federal), data analysis, web content, management of membership database, meeting facilitation, legislative tracking, and oral testimony.
