Designed and wrote the full charter application for Christel House DORS developing all elements of school programming. Christel House DORS is an adult high school giving students 18 and older the opportunity to re-engage in high school, working towards their diploma instead of a GED/HSE. Re-imagining education students. Our initial charter was approved my the Mayor's Office of Education Innovation (Indianapolis) in December 2011 and we started serving students in August 2012. Christel House DORS is one charter that has programming on three campuses: day classes are held on the campus of Ivy Tech Community College in downtown Indianapolis, on the West side of Indianapolis, and on the near south side of Indianapolis. The south side campus also offers evening classes and free drop in childcare for both day and evening students. Christel House DORS has grown from serving 175 students during the 2012-13 school to serving 565 students during the 2017-18 school year. www.chdors.org

Selected as the first ever Indianapolis Principal Fellow (IPF) in 2010 a partnership with Teach for America Indianapolis, Indianapolis Public Schools and Columbia University. IPF combines rigorous leadership training and a full-time principal residency in order to prepare fellows to serve as exceptional school leaders in Indianapolis. IPF seeks candidates who are exceptional educators, have significant experience in urban education, and are committed to pursuing school leadership in Indianapolis. I served as a 9th-11th Grade Advisor at the Big Picture Academy, a start up alternative school in St. Louis Public Schools. We were a part of the national Big Picture model, utilizing project based learning and community based internships to empower and engage students. I was selected as 1 of 4 Advisors to launch the school, which was at the time the district's newest initiative in alternative education. Facilitated programming, designed curriculum, and developed culture building strategies in preparation for the opening of the school. During my time at the Big Picture I was named St. Louis Public Schools Teacher of the Year and a finalist for Missouri Teacher of the Year. I served as the Vice Chair for the St. Louis Public Schools Professional Development Committee. As an executive officer I planned and facilitated committee meetings, planned district-wide professional development, and analyzed feedback from staff in district after professional development sessions to evaluate effectiveness.

Selected as one of 3,000 applicants from a pool of 19,000 applicants as a member of national service corps of outstanding recent college graduates who commit to two years to teach in public schools in low-income communities and become lifelong leaders for expanding educational opportunity. In addition, I served as a Transition Mentor for the incoming 2007 St. Louis Corps members.

Achieved goal of leading 65 students in rigorous reading intervention, resulting in an average of 1.9 years reading growth over one school year, over three times higher than the district average. Created various forms of individualized lesson plans and coursework for all students, focusing on their individual academic needs. Managed a special education caseload, facilitating IEP meetings, creating ambitious IEP goals for students to achieve, and advocating proper placement of students.
