Worked as a housekeeper over the very busy summer period, ensuring that rooms were cleaned in line with time and brand specifications. Able to reflect on the differences between housekeeping at hotels such as Pennyhill Park and the budget chains such as Travelodge.

Predominantly worked as a receptionist during which time I successfully developed and implemented a reception team up-sell scheme. To do this I researched other upsell schemes in place in other hotels, looked at the feasibility of an up-sell scheme at Pennyhill Park and then created an SOP to present to the hotel revenue manager. As a result of this, the reception team are now more sales-driven than before, achieving over £1000 worth of additional revenue in the first month.I also cross-trained in Reservations, as a member of the Nights team and as a Housekeeping supervisor. These pieces of cross-training gave me a fuller understanding of the inner-workings of these departments as well as the chance to see various aspects of a guest’s journey with regards to our hotel.

After completing a 2 day training course I am now a qualified Peer Assisted Learning leaderPeer Assisted Learning leaders at Bournemouth university leading and create 1 hour long sessions each week for first years.The sessions are on subjects such as assignments, report and essay structure, finances, referencing and general advice.

As a full-time receptionist, I had to check-in and check-out guests using the MyCould Hospitality reservation system. Also had to organise coach bookings - including their rooms and dinner times.Liaised with many other departments such as kitchen, housekeeping and F&B to ensure guests desires were all met. This was especially crucial during the summer as there were often weddings on consecutive days which involved bulk-check in and check-out as well as a quick turnover of rooms. Weddings and busy service times also meant I had to work on the bar, deliver room-service and wait on tables.Was also responsible for responding to guests online comments - both good and bad. This meant assessing what level of response was needed as well as sometimes being firm with guests when they were exaggerating. Each shift ended with cashing up, counting both the money at reception and the bar and making sure that it all balanced on the system.

Working in a very busy restaurant meant organising reservations, prepping tables for hen parties and birthdays as well as seating walk-in guests in suitable sections so as to not over-load the serving staff.As a very family-friendly restaurant, I had to help entertain children. Had to inform serving staff and the kitchen when it was a birthday, make balloon animals, sing happy birthday and greet everyone with enthusiasm and genuine happiness.During busy times guests often had to wait up to 1 hour for a table, meaning I had to keep a close eye on the restaurant and estimate when tables would become free.
