Throughout highschool, I joined a health sciences program because I was determined to pursue medicine in the future. I was completely confident I would do medicine until I took a specific course my junior year called End of Life Issues. The topics discussed in the course combined with the tragic effects of covid-19 made me realize I could not emotionally handle being a medical professional but I still care about improving people’s health.Around that time, I was also participating in other extracurriculars and activities such as theater, volunteering, tutoring. All these activities shared a common aspect in which they involved a lot of communication. Through these experiences, I discovered that I enjoyed interacting and collaborating with other people.Both of these experiences caused me to gain interest in Healthcare Management, a field of study that involves healthcare as well as a lot of communication. Through the health sciences program as well as the extracurriculars I participated in, I am equipped with skills and knowledge that can help me pursue this major.I consider myself a very empathetic person because I am able to understand other’s emotions with ease. At first impression, I am a bit quiet but once I get comfortable, I am very interactive. I believe that I can make a difference in people’s lives through kindness and by taking initiative to improve health care.
