I am a member of the Administrative Simplification Initiatives team, nested within the Health Policy/Advocacy Group of the AMA. My main areas of focus are promoting interoperability and supporting innovations in health IT, electronic health records, and utilization management. Current initiatives are centered around implementing the No Surprises Act, reducing clinician burden, and eliminating burdensome prior authorization. Throughout my work, patients still remain central in my advocacy.

I have worked independently as a consultant/contract employee performing various duties for a diverse group of clients. I offer my services to nonprofits on a sliding scale with occasional pro-bono work. As Senior Program Manager, I led Sick Cells' government affairs work, including:- Relationships with federal agencies & Hill offices- Engagement with state Medicaid programs- Drafting, editing & submission of public comments- Participation in multi-stakeholder policy workgroups- Planning & execution of annual national policy event/virtual fly-in- Establishing annual federal priorities- Presentations at external conferences, policy events, and programsI also supported research initiatives, including conducting environmental scans and literature reviews, extracting and validating quantitative and qualitative data, conducting data analysis, identifying themes, and drafting manuscripts.

As Program Manager, I focused out building out the organization's government affairs activities. I also supported research and program initiatives.- Facilitated Sick Cells' government affairs activity, including drafting letters to the White House and to Congress, crafting and submitting responses to federal RFIs, meeting with over 20 legislative offices to discuss legislative priorities, and managing the annual virtual fly-in.- Supported research initiatives. Key themes explored included Medicaid coverage for sickle cell disease therapies, community-led research, COVID-19 education, state legislation for sickle cell disease, and more.- Led Sick Cells' Faces of SCD Storytelling Program, including planning themed campaigns for Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Pride Month and campaigns on additional research topics. Work included identifying, recruiting, and interviewing individuals. - Assisted in management of the Ambassador Program, a 100+ network of individuals across the United States. Main responsibilities were onboarding interviews and connecting advocates with opportunities in their state.- Managed digital communications, including social media, blogs, and newsletter copyediting.- Directly managed four interns who assisted with community engagement, COVID-19 outreach, and government affairs.

- Created and elevate compelling digital content: draft and edit content calendars, media releases, internal and external communications, and marketing materials- Built awareness of sickle cell disease through advocacy and patient storytelling- Fostered relationships with potential business partners, donors, and policymakers- Copy edited materials and website- Designed & published social media post with the largest audience and highest engagement to date

- Tracked and summarized Illinois state legislation on protections around mandated reporting and child sexual abuse, and compiled weekly reports for the policy lead- Managed 17,000+ constituent CRM, including routine data scrubbing and reconciliation, and providing monthly reports to the CFO- Acted as department lead on two large financial management platform integrations - Created a Policies & Procedures manual for the position and database usage
