Unum has given me the opportunity to experience what the corporate business world truly looks like. I have learned so many new things through this internship and had the opportunity to grow my experience greatly. I have learned new Microsoft systems, managed an inbox, work with a remote team, and trained four new hires based out of the Philippines. All of this newness have each had their on challenges. However, I have loved learning how to better myself in areas such as communication, leadership, and problem solving.

I went to Clearwater Beach in the summer on a two month long mission trip. While in Clearwater, we got jobs at local businesses. I chose to work at Barefoot Beach House and I learned a lot there. I worked directly with customers everyday as I rented out cabanas, umbrellas, and chairs. After setting up all the equipment in the morning we would spend the rest of the day making sales. One of the biggest things I learned this summer was how to handle the various problems that arose with customers. Whether it was a bad chair, a storm rolls in, or a general complaint, I learned how to think quickly and find ways to resolve these issues and ensure the customer was satisfied.

I created a business to provide homemade meals for residents in my surrounding area. Many of these residents were older therefore couldn't cook as much as they once could or they lived alone which makes it difficult to cook a whole meal for just one person. I would cook and deliver meals weekly. I loved helping people and sharing my cooking with others. In this role I used social media to market my services as well as printed fliers.
