Associate Professional Clinical Counselor
CurrentPsychology Trainee
This primary care center lies between two areas with vastly different socioeconomic landscapes, one of which is heavily populated by first- and second-generation immigrants. I met with patients suffering from primarily stress-related disorders, and received supervision from licensed psychologist, David Tashnizi.
Clinical Psychology Intern
During this internship I completed assessments, observations, and diagnostic discussions with other professions in the early identification of neuropsychiatric disorders in young children. By working with multiple professions, ranging from teachers to occupational therapists, I was able to plan treatments utilizing different community settings. Counseling focused on encouraging parents to meet their child where they are, rather than "where they should be", using motivational interviewing. Behavioral therapy for children was also provided. Strict routines were in place to screen for child abuse or suspected neglect.
Psychology Research Assistant
I completed this internship in order to collect data for my Master's thesis on the efficacy of iCBT treatment for antenatal depression. During this internship I provided online therapy services for pregnant individuals suffering from mild to moderate depression. I had access to supervision from a licensed psychologist, as well as a psychiatrist. I had contact with patients daily via chat function. I gained experience in suicide protocol, as well as crisis management, and completed diagnostic interviews, as well as follow-up for eligibility and success evaluations of the program. Working with this unique patient population allowed me to gain more knowledge in meeting the needs of a group potentially experiencing domestic violence, as well as grappling with guilt and stigma. I gained valuable experience in conducting online-based cognitive behavioural therapy, as well as phone-based interviews.
