Having a child with a life-limiting condition, makes me appreciate that you should never take life for granted. In 2010, my son was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. A severe and progressive muscle wasting disease that affects mainly boys and it will shorten his life unless a cure is found! It affects 1 in every 3,500 boys born and is ‘the biggest’ genetic childhood killer condition. Every single week, two families in the UK will receive a diagnosis that their child has this condition. Since setting up Alex's Wish in late 2012, we have raised over £2M and invested funds into 36 projects to accelerate effective treatments to help delay disease progression, as well as funded clinical trials, assistive technologies to improve quality of life and improving clinical trial capacity and care standards in the UK. We are now seeing transformative treatments emerging for this condition, and it's incredibly exciting to be part of this journey. Through the years, I've worked the most amazing people and completed the most amazing challenges to raise funds - throwing myself out of a plane, abseiling, 3 peaks challenge, cycling from London to Paris, loop the loop to name but a few. Having a charity brings so much happiness and long-lasting memories. I wouldn't change what I do for the world. I work closely with businesses to help them achieve their Corporate Social Responsibility objectives.
