In search of a way to monetize my love of music, for someone who cannot hold a tune, I found Strait Music Company: a mom-and-pop turned one of Austin's leading independent Music retailers. Originally hired to promote and enroll prospective clients in Strait Music's rental program, I quickly adapted with the changing tides of COVID-19 to optimize their inventory on an online platform. Under the guidance of the online team and with the encouragement of their CFO, I not only learned how to code in basic HTML and format their products for online, but also CSS and stylistically marketed and optimized them as an online retailer.

Passion into practice, I regularly hosted a radio show geared towards promoting and discovering the undiscovered. Each week I would research, prepare and report on up-and-coming acts in the Austin area. Focusing mostly on blues and folk acts, I curated playlists for the benefit of the listener soul and reviewed albums that otherwise might pass from one desk to the next.- Early Mornin' Jams: Mondays at 5 a.m. was a collection of music from indie rock, to world and smooth jazz: leaving the listener with some marrow to chew on for the rest of their day.- Eclectic Sound: Wednesdays at 4 p.m. was designed to be a hodge-podge of quirky and unique compositions; whether you're stuck in rush hour or simply passing the time, tune in every week and you just might find your new favorite musician. - Everything Bagel: Sundays at 7 p.m. the pièce de résistance...is a collective of random artists and styles, yet somehow it all works. In an effort to combine my two greatest loves: music and writing, I put my research and reporting skills to the test in Afterglow's newsroom. As a consumer, music has moved me to extremes, it's even brought me to the Live Music Capital of the world, but none so formative as the act of research. My love of a good tune, and insatiable craving to learn more about how it was crafted, by who and for what reason have been, the crux of my being. Writing for a conventional newsroom in an unconventional tone: arts writing, was both challenging and soul nourishing, and, ultimately geared me towards a different path. My bread and butter is making work that resonates with its audience. Much like the musicians who crafted the works I've reported on, I like to nurture the writing through research and thorough reporting, rather than rush it to existence.

Understanding how not only nature, but nurture play a role in how we construct our identity is crucial to the way we approach the world and the relationships we create in it. As a student and later an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Dr. Leslie Moore, I grew to love psychology as an additional tool for navigating the world around me. Through this experience I not only gained a deeper understanding of my own values, identity and construct of self, but gained invaluable experience in leading a diverse group of students: diverse not only in their identities, but upbringing, background and nationality. This opportunity allowed me to gain experience in leadership, delegation and management, that was both challenging and rewarding.
