Managing Editor

Runwild Media Group

London, United Kingdom

Managing Editor of two luxury lifestyle titles - The City Magazine and Canary Wharf - featuring everything from finance and business to fast cars and good food, as well as luxury travel, fine wine, extreme sports, cutting-edge technology, gorgeous homes, high fashion and lavish real estate. As managing editor I was responsible for a large team, as well a contributing network of around 20 writers and freelancers. I planned and commissioned content for these two monthly titles, totalling nearly 400 pages each month, sourced and generated images, managed the design and final editing stages, as well as helping generate and identify key sales opportunities, and was involved in considerable client management and networking. During my time on the titles, I headed-up two massive overhauls and redesigns of both titles, pushing The City Magazine to become the forefront in luxury publishing for the financial sector and working closely with the Canary Wharf management team to develop a title that best served the needs of this fast-developing and extremely wealthy area. I have worked with clients such as British Airways, Bobbi Brown, Banana Republic, Broadgate Estates, Canary Wharf Group, Knight Frank and JP Morgan.

Feb 2008 - Oct 2010

Editor

Role involved driving the editorial strategy, recruiting and managing an editorial team, commissioning articles and freelancers, all monthly planning, writing features and news, conducting interviews with readers and industry professionals, proofing, subbing and approving design, and managing an editorial budget. Also, involved in launching a new education magazine, responsible for planning and researching the market, assessing competition, writing marketing and promotional material and driving the overall success of the new publication. •Content was high-level business and financial management, government policy analysis and comment, as well as articles on employment law, health and safety, HR and office culture. This required a considerable and acute knowledge of two complex public sectors, as well as a solid understanding of business terminology, financials, government policy, initiatives and funding streams. •Readership for the magazines was business and financial managers in schools and general practice respectively – which meant writing for a niche and specific audience, regularly taking breaking news stories and having to present them from a unique viewpoint. •The two sectors – education and health - are heavily saturated with free magazines and journals; to set ourselves apart from the competition and remain the market leaders required a constantly innovative and bold approach to all aspects of the editorial.
