Joyful Connections Assistant

The Joyful Connections group is an expressive therapies group that works with older adults who are experiencing memory loss to build cognitive skills, inspire creative expression, boost social engagement, and build community. I planned and led a weekly, two-hour Joyful Connections group for the residents at 2Life during the summer of 2024. The sessions were intermodal and used visual arts and movement in addition to music therapy. I planned and adapted sessions that were culturally informed, centered around resident preference and engagement. I used the the arts as a form of alternative communication to relieve any challenges arising with language barriers as well as enhance alternate forms of expression that are non-speaking for the residents. Following the session, I would document how each resident engaged with the activities that day.
