Continuing the role of Planning Officer maintaining responsibility for policy areas such as Renewable Energy, Climate Change, Flood Risk & Waste. I am also now lead officer on Economic Development facilitating the production of the Sub - Regional Economic Growth Assessment (EGA), currently being undertaken by NLP consultants jointly for HDC, MSDC and CBC and have maintained overall responsibility for the SHLAA and AMR managing our new Planning Officer through the process on a daily basis. Finally I am lead officer on the preparation of the Districts housing trajectory and five year housing supply position, continually monitoring housing numbers giving evidence at public inquiries where necessary.

I took this position following the end of a 12 month contract covering for the Districts Senior Environment Officer while she was on maternity leave. This role had more of a planning focus, moving away from SA/SEA and EIA, albeit I was still responsible for the assessment of renewable energy and waste applications, focusing on planning projects such as the AMR and the SHLAA. In this role I also held on to environmental policy areas including climate change and renewable energy, sustainable transport, air quality, sustainable design and construction, flood risk management, water efficiency, waste management & green infrastructure. My main responsibilities were for the preparation and co-ordination of evidence base studies to assist policy formulation, for the preparation of the Annual Monitoring Report (AMR), Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) Report, maintenance of SHLAA database and corresponding geographical data, support on the development of strategic sites and CIL, the preparation of policy comments on general planning applications, liaison with neighboring authorities/organisations on documents such as the Local Transport Plan, Minerals and Waste LDF and Aviation Scoping Report.

Working in the Strategic Planning team, my role was to provide support and advice on all policy related environmental and sustainability issues. Key responsibilities included SA/SEA incorporating EqIA and HIA, EIA Screening and Scoping, policy comments on major strategic developments and waste and minerals planning applications and coordination of background documents and evidence base studies such as the SFRA, WS Sustainable Energy Study and Gatwick Diamond Joint Water Cycle Study. I was also Chair of the West Sussex Renewable Energy Steering Group.In 2009 the SA Scoping Report I authored to accompany the early stages of the HDC Core Strategy Review was listed as an example of best practice on Rikki Therivals recommendations list 2009.

To provide advice through all stages of the planning process to ensure the principles of sustainability are adequately considered and incorporated into development design and the local policies supporting them. Key responsibilities included the development of Sustainability and Equalities Impact Assessments (SA/SEA/EqIA), planning policy reviews, Sustainability Statements, GIS support and the provision of training workshops to clients and design teams.

Assisted with the preparation of documents for the LDF specialising in sustainability and the built environment. Responsibilities included the research and formulation of policies for the emerging Core Strategy, the production of associated Sustainability Appraisal (SA/SEA) reports, the preparation of data for the Annual Monitoring Report (AMR) and the provision of policy comments for all larger planning applications. I was the teams GIS custodian responsible for the mapping of all policy data, and was project manager on the production of a GIS database used to store and analyse data for the forthcoming Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA), to be used by five authorities throughout West Sussex.
